In this old communication route between valleys we will go through different environments, the magnificent beech forest of the Saja, the high brañas, the livestock landscape of the Prado-Council and the most rural areas of these mountain areas.
We follow the ascending track, entering one of the most famous beech forests in Cantabria, which extends without interruption to the Brañas de Carracedo. This forest included in the Saja Reserve, allows us to contemplate some long-lived and stout specimens of beech trees, among which deer, roe deer and wild boar walk.
We leave the forest behind and enter the domain of the highland pasture. From an altitude of 1,000 m, the Prado-Council of Tudanca and the peaks that surround us are already dominated , including the great mass of Peña Sagra.
The road borders the Prado-Concejo, one of the traditional agrarian peculiarities of the towns of the Tudanca valley. This grassland is a communal space of medieval heritage of great historical and ethnographic interest.
From here we continue the descent while contemplating on the steep slopes the marks left by the bases.
Tudanca has been declared a historical-artistic complex since the eighties. This medieval town was a place of inspiration and rest for great writers: José María de Cossío, Pereda, Unamuno, José Hierro, Cela ... And within the walls of the Casona is one of the most interesting bibliographic heritages of Cantabria.
