A morning tour to discover Santillana del Mar, one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. In addition, we will visit the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana and how could it be otherwise, the famous Altamira Museum with its neo-cave (a replica of the Altamira cave)
ALTAMIRA & SANTILLANA (1/2 day)
TOUR DESCRIPTION
We will leave Santander at 9:30 a.m. towards the Altamira Museum that houses the scale replica of the painting room, the so-called Neocueva. Altamira was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1985 and currently to protect its conservation it only allows the visit by drawing of 5 people a week. This is the main reason why a replica of the cave was created. The importance of the Altamira cave is due to the fact that it preserves one of the most important pictorial and artistic cycles of prehistory with paintings dating from about 40,000 years ago.
Then we will go to Santillana de Mar, where we will visit this beautiful medieval town with cobbled streets and classified as a Historic-Artistic Complex and has been, for decades, one of the best-known cultural and tourist centers in Cantabria. There we will enter through its narrow streets until we reach the Plaza Mayor and Colegiata de Santa Juliana. We will leave you free time to walk the streets of this beautiful town and for you to visit the Collegiate Church or one of its interesting museums until it is time to return.
