ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
ROUTE + WORKSHOP
Cantabria’s great landscape and natural diversity means that the variety of habitats—and therefore mushrooms—is enormous.
Within just a few square kilometers you can find holm oak forests, oak woods, beech forests, pine forests, and wide meadows. In addition, pressure on this natural resource in the region is almost nonexistent, since historically it has not been an area where people collect more than one or two species. When we combine this with the frequent rains during the most favorable seasons (spring and autumn), we have a true paradise for mushrooms.
The activity begins at a previously agreed meeting point, from where we will head into the forest to enjoy a mycological walk. During this easy hike, we will explore different species of mushrooms and fungi, highlighting the key details for proper identification and warning about possible confusion with toxic species.
This is not a mass harvesting activity; only the specimens necessary for the identification workshop will be collected.
The workshop is the core of the activity, providing essential tools to correctly distinguish between species. We will use dichotomous keys to facilitate the accurate identification of each mushroom.
Depending on the conditions, the workshop will take place outdoors or in a covered space specially prepared for the activity.
