On this morning excursion, you'll discover Comillas, Cantabria's only modernist city. You'll be amazed to learn the fascinating history that links Comillas to Antonio López y López, the first Marquis of Comillas and the driving force behind the city's most distinctive features.

Our first stop will be to explore Villa Quijano, commonly known as "Gaudí's Caprice," a unique building inspired by sunflowers and music. This villa is one of the early works of the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and was commissioned by the Cantabrian lawyer Máximo Díaz de Quijano in 1885. The importance of this work lies in the fact that it marks the beginning of the Modernist movement, as well as being one of the few works that Gaudí completed outside of Catalonia.

Afterwards, we'll head to the town center for a short break before continuing on to the Old Major Seminary (and former University of Comillas). This impressive building, designed by the Catalan architects Joan Martorell and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, is a blend of different architectural styles, including Modernism. Before starting our return journey, we'll take a short scenic drive. Here you'll see some of the most emblematic places in this city: the Sobrellano Palace and its Pantheon Chapel, the old cemetery, and the port of Comillas.
